Invisalign in Geelong: Your Clear Teeth-Straightening Solution

Having perfectly straight teeth is a desire that most of us share. However, it is not only a straight smile that is of aesthetic benefit, having straight teeth provides us with a significant advantage to sustain a healthy mouth. It enables us to access and clean our teeth effectively, reduce build up of plaque and subsequently improving the health of our surrounding bone and gum.

Why Should I Choose Clear Aligner Orthodontic Treatment?

Clear aligner therapy such as Invisalign or Smilestyler provides its users with the aesthetic comfort of not having to wear brackets and wires to achieve a beautiful smile.

Each aligner is worn for approximately two weeks, gently shifting your teeth into place whilst you maintain your current lifestyle!

What To Expect At Your Clear Aligner Consultation Appointment

A thorough examination including x rays, photos and 3D scans will be taken by your dentist so that an accurate analysis and record is taken for the diagnosis and treatment planning of your teeth and jaw.

At Dentists & Doctors Geelong we are pleased to offer Gap free orthodontic consultation appointments.

Following your initial examination at Dentists & Doctors, you will be provided information on what your treatment options are, how soon you should start treatment, duration of your Clear aligner treatment and an approximate cost.

What Do I Need To Remember Whilst Undergoing Clear Aligner Orthodontic Treatment?

Whilst undergoing Clear aligner therapy it is essential that you:

1. Maintain good oral hygiene
It is important that whilst completing your orthodontic treatment you maintain a high standard of oral hygiene. This means maintaining twice daily toothbrushing, daily flossing, use of mouthwash and fluoridated toothpaste.

Wearing retainers can make it difficult to clean your teeth and provides an extra surface for the bacteria and food to collect, thus it is important to maintain regular oral home care practices and speak to your dentist if you aren’t sure how to clean your teeth and retainers.

2. Attend regular dental checks
Visiting your dentist every 6 months for a routine dental check, clean and fluoride treatment is important in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. It ensures any teeth which are at risk of tooth decay are regularly monitored, X rays may also be taken at your routine dental checks.

3. Modify your diet
While completing orthodontic treatment it is important to modify any poor existing dietary habits. You will need to avoid eating sticky foods such as toffees and hard sticky candy, as well as limiting your intake of carbonated drinks such as Coke which are high in sugar and acidic.

A poor diet will increase your risk for tooth decay, more so whilst undergoing orthodontic treatment as sugar and acid consumed lies on your teeth and held on to the surfaces of your teeth for several hours with your clear aligners, providing perfect conditions for tooth decay.

Your dentist will provide you with more information on appropriate diet and oral hygiene habits.

4. Follow directions given by your dental practitioner
Whilst completing your orthodontic treatment with Clear aligner therapy (such as Invisalign or Smilestyler) it is important your aligners are are worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day to achieve effective movement of teeth and ensuring treatment is completed in the time frame discussed.

Clear aligners are not to be worn during mealtimes or whilst drinking fluids other than water.

After completion of your Clear Aligner therapy you will be provided with either a clear retainer, similar to the aligners worn during treatment, to prevent future movement of teeth. If your retainers are not worn according to the advice given by your dentist your teeth may move out of alignment.

*Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks, the clinicians at Dentists & Doctors will be happy to discuss all risks associated with any procedure prior to your treatment.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

The main and active ingredient in Dermal fillers is Hyaluronic Acid – this is a substance which occurs naturally in your body. Its function is to attract and bind water molecules which help to hydrate and revitalise your skin. By boosting your skin with this naturally occurring substance, volume is added to the area instantly. This diminishes the appearances of wrinkles and lines, helping to achieve a softer and youthful look.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

We believe only in the use of temporary fillers as the best and most safest option. The average longevity of Dermal fillers ranges between 6-12 months depending on the area of face treated and also quantity of substance used.

What Are The Areas Treated?

What Is Botox And How Does It Work?

Botox is a drug which doctors have been using for many years to treat the obvious signs of aging, such as wrinkles and facial creases. Botox is a brand name of a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

There are other brands available in Australia such as Dysport, however our Doctors prefer to use Botox as often you require less units for effective results.

Botox works by blocking signals between the treated nerves and muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract, thus relaxing and softening wrinkles.

Where Is Botox Used?

Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines.

It can also help treat other conditions, such as:

How Long Does Botox Last?

If it is your first time receiving Botox treatment, expect your results to last for 2.5 – 3months.

Otherwise Botox generally can last up to 6 months.

We recommend waiting 7 – 10 days after your treatment to notice results.

As the treatment wears off, your muscles are able to contract and move and will need to be retreated. Often the lines and wrinkles can appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking.

If your jawbone is not strong enough to support the titanium screw, you may require bone grafting. These options can all be discussed during your initial consultation, which involves the latest in 3D scanning technology and an assessment of your medical history.

After the titanium screw is attached, your gums will need around two weeks to heal. A healing cap is applied to the implant to aid this process. Once your gums have healed, an abutment made of titanium, porcelain or gold is attached to the implant. An abutment is essentially something that joins two things at a border: in this case, your implant and the crown.

As with the surgery for titanium screws, the surgery for your abutment requires healing time for your gums, during which a temporary crown is attached. Finally, once healing has taken place, your dentist attaches the crown, typically made of a combination of porcelain and metal. This new tooth looks like all your other teeth, and you can treat it as such when brushing or flossing.

The Single Dental Implant Procedure

There are several steps involved in the single dental implant process:

Comprehensive Medical And Dental Assessment

Our dentists take 3D x-rays as well as scans and photos to assess your teeth, gums and jaw bone. If your jawbone is not strong enough to support the post, you may require bone grafting.
Healing time: Three-four months

Surgery To Place Implant

A titanium screw (also known as a metal grade post or abutment) is attached to your jawbone and acts as a replacement for the root of your tooth. Over time, the implant is fused with the jawbone, and the gum is secured over the implant.
Healing time: Two weeks

Custom Porcelain Tooth Is placed

Once healing has taken place, the porcelain crown is attached to the implant post. You can now enjoy your beautiful, new smile!
Healing time: Up to three months

The end result? A stronger solution, which looks better, feels better, and is less prone to further tooth decay.

Learn More About All-On-4®

In an All-On-4® dental implant procedure, a patient’s set of upper and lower teeth are restored with only four implants. These implants provide the support required to place a set of permanent teeth.

The All-On-4® dental implants procedure usually requires the patient to be under general anaesthesia as it is a surgical procedure. However, when the anaesthesia wears off, the patient might experience discomfort such as swelling and minor aches for a few days.

Special painkiller medications can be prescribed to patients to alleviate pain.

The All-On-4® treatment can be recommended for anyone that needs a permanent dental restoration for multiple sets of teeth.

The candidate is required to have healthy gums and bone mass to hold the implants. These may include patients that have endured tremendous tooth loss or who want a permanent, long-lasting solution to removable dentures.

For such patients, an All-On-4® treatment can help restore vital facial features, align jaw position and bite force, as well as enhance speech.

With good dental hygiene, maintenance, and care, standard All-On-4® restorations can last indefinitely. However, this is very much dependant on the maintenance of the implants and prosthetics.

Since the All-On-4® implants are tilted within the jaw, the requirement for bone grafting is minimised. The positioning on both the lower and upper jaws is adjusted to ensure maximum functionality and to prevent any dental concerns like cavities from forming.

For this reason, it’s necessary for the dentist to analyse the bone structure to see if they are a fit for the procedure.

Patients can also opt for sleep dentistry as a part of their treatment to help manage their fear or anxiety.

Undergoing a treatment under sleep dentistry means the sedation is supervised by a medical professional who can monitor their condition till the procedure is complete. This is to ensure the overall safety and comfort of the patient.

It’s not usually necessary to remove both upper and lower arches in an All-On-4® treatment if one of them are in good shape. However, if both arches are badly damaged, it’s advisable to get them both replaced in a single treatment. This helps reduce cost of the whole treatment.

The completion time for an All-On-4® treatment can vary on certain factors. Ideally, the patient can expect to get a full restoration of their implants within 24 hours with their temporary teeth.

Within the said time period, the patient will have their All-On-4® teeth permanently fitted into the implants. The treatment duration might, however, increase if the patient requires any add-ons to be done.

Compared to regular implants where having a firm jawbone is necessary, All-On-4® implants can be placed strategically to manage a single dental arch. This means a dentist can find an ideal foundation in the jawbone to insert the All-On-4® implants.

6 Stars!!! Dr Pascale is the best dentist I have ever seen. I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted with absolutely no discomfort even though I was only under local anaesthetic. Dr Pascale and amazing assistant Lucy made sure I was comfortable the whole way through. The reception team was also really great and even followed up a day later to see how I was feeling after the extraction. Can’t recommend Dentists and Doctors and Dr Pascale enough.
